Clate is a no-code interface design tool from Qt for engineers and designers who build human-machine interfaces (HMI) and embedded device screens, turning visual canvases into production-ready QML code. Qt announced Clate 0.6 Beta at the Qt World Summit 2026 on October 27 and opened the first public beta on November 1, 2026.
Core Features
- Visual canvas with infinite pages and layers; move, scale, rotate, align, distribute, and duplicate objects and edit fill, stroke, gradients, and text in a property panel.
- AI Assistant: a chat-based agent powered by Anthropic's Claude Agent over the ACP protocol that creates or modifies interface elements from natural-language instructions, applying changes directly to the canvas.
- One-click export to QML (Qt Quick), targeting Qt 6.12, so engineers can add interaction logic and data bindings in C++ or JavaScript.
- Live preview window shows how selected layers render at runtime before export.
- Design objects map one to one to real Qt Quick structures, so the exported file is genuine runnable code rather than a flattened image.
Use Cases
- Industrial control panels and manufacturing HMI screens.
- Medical instrument and in-vehicle display interfaces.
- Consumer-electronics product UIs where memory and GPU are tightly constrained.
- Designers who want to hand engineers editable QML instead of static mockups.
Pricing
Clate 0.6 Beta is offered as a free version in public preview; Qt has not announced a paid tier or per month pricing, with the commercial product expected in summer 2027. Reusable components and data binding are planned for late 2026, and animation editing plus real-time collaboration in spring 2027.
Our Take
Best for embedded and HMI teams who are already inside the Qt ecosystem and tired of rebuilding designs as code by hand. The trade-off is the beta's missing reusable components and data binding. See related AI design tools on our site.
